DSC_1213 Crystal Basin Bistro is located exactly halfway between South Lake Tahoe and Sacramento right along Highway 50 in beautiful Apple Hill.  Now open for over two years, the Bistro has earned its chops on Yelp and TripAdvisor with 5 star ratings and has quickly become a hangout for locals.  With a seasonally driven menu that changes 3 times each year, the Bistro strives to create amazing food in an unexpected location.  Menu items are always $7 and $9 and are accompanied by an ever-changing $17 three-course meal on Friday nights accompanied by live music.  Great beers on tap and fun wines by the glass round out your patio dining experience.  Open 7 days from 11am to 7pm on weekdays and until 8pm on weekend evenings.

The Bistro is the satellite operation of Crystal Basin Cellars – right across the fence and newly created park in Camino.  Crystal Basin makes an extensive line of rich wines that has created a rabid following of wine lovers.  The food complements the wine – and vice versa! The South Philly

For Sample the Sierra, the Bistro will feature a Shrimp-topped Radish and Cucumber Salad on a Wonton with Sweet Chili dressing.  This fun, layered dish will be easy to eat by hand and will feature fresh produce from Patrick’s Mountain Grown in Camino.  The wine pairing with this dish will be Crystal Basin’s 2011 Grenache that was awarded a Gold Medal at the SF Chronicle Wine Competition.

This is our fourth  year at Sample the Sierra and we enjoy this event with our South Lake Tahoe neighbors very much.  We are honored that they select our own Mike Owen to participate as a food judge at the cooking contest each year.
