Know Your Food: Tahoe Food Hub

On the North Shore of the lake lives a non-profit dedicated to addressing issues of local food access and sustainable food growth -Tahoe Food Hub.

Tahoe Food Hub believes in knowing your food and supporting local farmers, and they have created a solution to doing both – a regional, sustainable, food system.

How does it work? If you’re a chef or wholesale food buyer, you contact Tahoe Food Hub. Then, using their network upwards of 50 diverse, equitable, and sustainable farms (all within 150 miles of North Lake Tahoe!), they obtain the products you’re looking for.

In May of 2019, they made it even easier to get local food products by opening a store. Located in the Truckee Tahoe Airport, this store is open 6 days a week and allows consumers to easily shop and eat local.

But that not all! Tahoe Food Hub also has a greenhouse farm, where they grow products year-round in Truckee, proving that California sunshine can be used for food growth even in high mountain climates.

Want to get in on this awesome program? Tahoe Food Hub will be assisting vendors in utilizing regional products in this year’s Sample the Sierra! And if you think this is something you’d want in your everyday life let them know…they’re considering expanding to the South Shore!
